Why we Love this Coffee:
A beautiful washed coffee from Peru, this coffee from Clever Neyra stood out to us for it’s balance. It’s sweet and round with pear a little zippy green apple tartness. It’s a perfectly uncomplicated coffee that actually has it all.
More About this Coffee:
The farm is located at Alto Ihuamaca, close to the conservation area of San Ignacio at 1550masl. It’s a small 1.5ha farm planted with Bourbon and Geisha. Clever inherited the land from his father who ran it for 22 years. He decided to let the land rest for 5 years before planting 1700 geisha trees and 4000 Bourbon in 2020. So far, he’s working on the farm with the help of some cousins as the second year production is quite low. Cherries are fermented for 24 to 36 hours after depulping and then drying takes about 10-12 days. Peru has historically been regarded as an origin of unremarkable and often unreliable quality. Clever has one of many farms that disproves this. The altitude of the Andes combined with rich volcanic soils and tropical rainfall means that Peru has the ideal topography and climate for producing high quality Arabica coffee.
